La Casa has moved! Founders
Katy and Gerardo have found a great new site for HOY’s home base, Casa HOY in Cuernavaca, the City of Eternal Spring. Now located in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood, Casa HOY has space to put up volunteers and budget travelers . Come visit us in our new and improved location (with a pool)!
Recent group projects have included:
Twelve enthusiastic college students from Canada spent a week working at various projects in the Cuernavaca area, then moving on to other regions of Mexico during a month-long community service trip. Through Por un mejor HOY, the group lent many helping hands in the ongoing cleanup of a ravine headed by Casa Atzingo, where the group was also housed. Other days the team headed to Temixco to visit, play with, and offer encouragement to at-risk teens at CAM and to Tepoztlan to help in the construction of the alternative elementary school Terramar, due to open its doors this coming school year. Thanks to all who collaborated for such a successful week!
Alternative Spring Break 2008: Thirteen students from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles joined HOY in Tianguistengo, Hildago, for their alternative spring break. From March 1 to 8, 2008, they worked in the Nahuatl-speaking village of Tonchintlán, painting school and municipal buildings, cleaning and organizing the health clinic, and carrying out workshops about health and hygiene and recycling with the children. Donations included basic medicines and snakebite antidote for the clinic, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and school supplies. Check out HOY's blog for a few pictures of the group.
